If you want to see what the shore is actually like this is the route for you. You will go through old fishing towns on islands out in the Chesapeake Bay and then you will head through the beautiful wildlife refuge. There are a couple local restaurants with the freshest seafood you can find and many scenic stops. Bring your camera and keep your eyes open.

This route starts and ends at the beginning of the George Washington Parkway in front of George Washington's Historic Mount Vernon. As you journey along this route, you pass through Old Town Alexandria, and up long the Potomac River overlooking the Washington DC and Georgetown skyline. The route passes goes though some great tree lined back roads dotted with large mansions along the way. You then go on a peaceful twisting Algonquin Parkway and ever popular Fairfax County Parkway. The final part of the trip passes by Fort Belvoir then back to historic Mount Vernon.

High Rock is just off the Appalachian Trail in Northern Maryland, on South Mountain. There is a gated paved road that leads from Pen-Mar Park to High Rock, opens from 9:00am till dusk.
Very nice little stretch, watch out for some off camber turns.
Short twisty road, lots of fun.
For the area this route is very good. Use some caution when heading North across 214, there is a hump in the road and if you are accelerating hard your front end will lift up.
Great ride, nice curves, rural views, historical Gettysburg. Did this ride two summers ago. It was a lot of fun
